The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the many symptoms of the instability
of the region. Religious fundamentalism, terrorist organizations, lack of economic
and social development, all contribute to the continued violence, which now even
reached the shores of the United States.
Terrorists, and countries supporting them, must be punished for their evil deeds.
But major changes must be made to the malfunctioning societies to avert future disasters.
The Alliance for Middle East Just Peace is intended to be a grass-roots movement
of organizations concerned about the region's instability, and working together to
initiate the needed remedial actions.
Solutions to major problems are difficult to reach. But our intellectual resources can be used to achieve results, when the concerned parties have the right motivation. The Human Progress Network conducted an extensive analysis of the problems and opportunities of the Middle East, and developed a feasible, just solution for reaching peace and development for the Arab World. Improved economic, social and political development will diminish the dissatisfaction of much of the populations involved, which frequently results in terrorism.
Two concepts were employed in developing the Confederation of Abraham proposal.
The systems approach recognizes that complex problems require comprehensive
solutions. Such comprehensive thinking emphasizes the Whole System instead of the
components. Similarly, objectives must be viewed in relation to the Whole System.
It becomes feasible to employ optimum design principles in the planning and implementation
of new alternatives. It has to be recognized that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
can be successfully resolved only within the Whole System: the Arab World.
Super-optimum solutions (SOS) involve the development of innovative alternatives
to political, economic and other policy problems. It is recognized that contending
parties can come out ahead of their initial best expectations. Techniques are available
for reaching super-optimum solutions:
By looking at the whole system (the Arab World, Israel, United States, European Union) and developing new goals, resources, institutions, etc., the Confederation of Abraham proposal becomes a realistic, feasible solution to the current crisis.
The purpose of the Alliance for Middle East Just Peace movement is to publicize
the Confederation of Abraham proposal to a world-wide audience. Organizations and
institutions concerned about the lack of progress in the current peace process can
be induced to join a mega-coalition. It is anticipated that a comprehensive coalition
can be formed. Religious organization should include Muslims, Christians, Jews and
others. Special interests could include Arab-American, Jewish and other peace-seeking
groups.
Once a consensus is reached and the Confederation of Abraham concept is found acceptable
to the Arab countries and Israel, the Alliance would start a campaign to influence
the Congress and the White House. The eventual outcome should be a plan by the United
States and the European Union to begin the implementation of the proposal. Here the
model is the initiation of the European Union after World War II.
A non-profit educational organization, the Human
Progress Network, is the organizer of the movement. As a think tank, the
organization conducted research into national and world problems. Concluding that
many world conflicts can only be solved through a global approach, the concept of
peace confederations was utilized.
It is expected that many organizations involved or concerned about the Middle East
peace process will join the proposed mega-coalition. There are also many associations
and coalitions of concerned citizens interested in social, economic, political and
other world problems. By incorporating their reasonable solutions to the proposal,
their support will be obtained for the successful implementation of the goals of
the Alliance for Middle East Just Peace movement.
There will be many ways you will be able to help. You can provide financial support, to build up the capabilities of the movement. You can volunteer to spread the message to family and friends. You can make suggestions and proposals to make our movement more effective.
